I heard a leprechaun speak to me
In God the Father's poetry
And he told me about a pot of gold
At the end of a rainbow that was so old

If I could just catch him by the toe
He would have to give me his gold, you know
And you must, if you find a leprechaun's gold,
Use it wisely and build a house of old

For wisdom is more precious far than fame
Or riches or beauty, it's all the same
And I knew that these things would come to me
In wisdom's precious company

So I searched for that leprechaun far and wide
Beset by disaster on every side
And I found him once, and I held him fast
By his toe, and found gold that was made to last

For the luck of the Irish was with me there
And I found that gold that is precious fair
And I'll use it to build my house of old
Just exactly as I was told
